5 Basic Self Defense Moves Every Woman Should Know
2017 New Year’s Eve in Bengaluru was a day most women in the city would not like to remember. There were reports of mass molestations in the “presumed” IT capital of India and some even the very next day. You can argue about how the system needs to improve, how police needs to improve, how we should make the streets safe for every woman in India and woman should be able to go out anytime and anyplace without any fear. While all that is true, let’s face the reality, things do not change so fast in India. There are a lot of perverts out there so we’ve compiled a list of basic self-defense moves every woman in India (or elsewhere for that matter) should know—just in case.
1. Go for the Vision
If and when someone attacks you, the first thing to do is go for their vision. Hit the eyes of the attacker with your hands, fingers, or anything you may have at the time. If you manage to hit their eyes, you’ll be able to blind them or at least get enough time to get away from the compromising position.
2. Hit the Groin Area
If you managed to hit the eyes of the attacker, next thing to do is go for the groin area. Just make sure you hit sharp, firmly and on target. A well landed kick will leave your attacker in tears on the floor and you can probably run away to seek help.
3. Go for the Nose
In case you are not in a position to hit the groin or go for the eyes, go for the nose. Use your elbows or any other strong part of your body to hit the attacker’s nose as hard as possible. Nasal bone is often susceptible to injuries and if you hit right, it will leave your attacker in immense pain and probably bleeding.
4. Damage the throat
Another susceptible part of an attacker is the throat. The skin on throat is usually tender and if you have nails, you can dig them deep into the skin and give a mark your attack will remember forever. Hitting the throat with your elbow, fist or side of the palm is also a good option.
5. Go for the Knees
Knees are fairly strong part of the human body so why attack this area? This is because a sudden strong kick to the knees usually puts the attacker off balance and you can probably use any of the other moves mentioned above. When you go for the knees make sure you hit in a stomping manner so as to not hurt yourself.
