German couple takes to social media in search of stolen dog
The couple — Steffen Kagera and Janin Scharrenberg — has been travelling around the world since April last year
A German couple touring India has taken to social media seeking help to trace their one-and-a-halfyear-old dog, Luke, that was stolen from them near Marina Beach here on Saturday.
“Luke was tied outside the car parked near Marina Beach. At around 4 pm someone came in an autorickshaw and sped away with him,” said the message, which is being circulated on WhatsApp with a picture of the black Labrador. The couple — Steffen Kagera and Janin Scharrenberg — has been travelling around the world since April last year.
“Janin was inside the car and I was taking a walk towards the sea. An autorickshaw briefly stopped beside the car, and Luke was gone,” he said.
It was only after some passersby alerted Janin, she realised that Luke has been stolen. But by then the autorickshaw had disappeared. “Luke was always comfortable with strangers. We hope he is safe and being fed,” he said.
The couple had filed a complaint with Marina police station. “Police don’t really know what to do. There are no CCTV cameras in the area. So they are unable to get any clues on Luke’s whereabouts. We are hoping for the best,” Steffen said. The couple distributed pamphlets and sticked posters of Luke at Marina beach for the second day on Tuesday, offering reward for information that can lead to Luke.
Interestingly, the couple had found the dog near their car in a street in Greece last year. “We adopted him after a search for owners. We named him and got a pet passport. Luke became our travel companion since then,” he said.
Initially, they had planned a road trip to Europe that was extended to Asia. “We reached India from Pakistan via Amritsar,” he said, adding they had cancelled their scheduled trip to Sri Lanka on July 17 to search for Luke.
