Seven simple ways of bringing more happiness in life
Though we know happiness is all about the state of our mind our thoughts and attitude towards life but still I feel these seven practices which are often neglected ,when cultivated mindfully and continuously can bring more happiness in life .
1. Focusing on the good things in life brings happiness
Start recognizing the good things around you .Many good and positive things are already in our life.We must practice noticing them like the sights, sounds, and smells we encounter—earthy smell of the rain , an epic architecture , a stranger’s smile, a baby’s gurgle.Take your time to absorb it and think about why you enjoy it.
2. Adding happiness through subtraction
Even when we focus on good after sometime we tend to take that for granted and lose out on happiness .A good thing repeated gives less satisfaction .To get over this if you deny yourself for sometime things which make you happy ,it could even be a bite of your favorite chocolate ..you will find that when you do get a bite of it after a break how it makes you feel happy .
3. Finding meaning and purpose of life increases happiness
I was browsing through the family albums and feeling happiness surge in, that was I believe because I was creating and recalling positive events which reminded me that one of my meaning and purpose of life is reflected in the happy moments shared with my family friends and loved ones .
4. Using our strengths generates happiness
Don’t get obsessed with your flaws or weaknesses instead use your strengths .If we put more time and attention into our strengths and positive attributes we will generate more happiness..eg if you are a good painter teach kids to paint ,if you have a green thumb look for happiness in your gardening efforts .Select your strengths and plan to use them in new and different ways .
5. Building strong social support increases happiness
Quantity and quality of our social connections: friendships, family relationships ,neighbors etc are closely related to well-being and happiness ,the two can practically be equated.The happiest people are not differentiated by money, smartness,age etc but by their strong social relationships.So if you do one thing today to be happier,spend time with family and friends.
6. Doing random acts of kindness
Kindness makes you happy and happiness makes you kind wonderful isn’t it ? That’s a “positive feedback loop” between kindness and happiness, one encourages the other You engage in one kind deed and become happier, and the happier you feel, the more likely you are to do another kind act.” Apne liye jeeye to Kya jiye”
7. Giving brings more happiness
When we choose to give because we want to give without any pressure or obligation ,it brings more happiness .i have seen beautiful souls regardless of their income spend money on others and are happier than those who spend more on themselves. By extending physical help we connect and spend time with people we help and feel more happy .
